| A good effort from an under strength squad |
IAG, yet again hit by sickness and late withdrawals, put in a great effort in December's round of league matches at the Soccerdome, drawing two and losing one...The last round of league fixtures for 2008 saw mixed fortunes for IAG who, due to fixture changes, played two Team X matches and one "real" league game. First up opponents Blackpool failed to appear so Wigan Peoples Voice stepped into the breach. As both teams were due to play Blackpool that day, both gained a 2-0 victory under the Team X rules. The match itself was a hard fought encounter that could have gone either way, but a terrific strike from Darren Sullivan ensured the game finished all square at 1-1. Due to teams dropping out or failing to show, the vagaries of the fixture list pitted IAG against league leaders North Manchester Rangers twice in quick succession. The first contest (again played as a Team X match with both sides taking three points), saw Sullivan net again in a match IAG dominated but could not finish, ending up 1-1. The "return" saw the Manchester side strengthen their team and take the points winning 0-3 despite a brave effort from IAG which saw them pepper their opponents goal yet fail to score. |
