| A successful opening day's fixtures for IAG FC |
IAG FC make a great start to the new league season with five points from a possible six...The start of the 2008-9 league campaign saw IAG continuing in the second division of a competition now hosting three divisions. First up were old foes Wigan People's Voice who took an early lead rather against the run of play it must be said. Although the Lancashire side had a couple more chances to extend their lead, IAG dominated overall and battered against a stubborn defence leaving it literally until the last kick of the match, when Pete Tattersall lashed home a loose ball for a deserved equaliser. This seemed to inspire the team as in the next match against Rochdale, who had done the double over the Macclesfield side the previous season, IAG raced into an early 3-0 lead through Darren Sullivan and an Andy Mulley brace. Rochdale pulled one back but a Steve Melton strike saw IAG home 4-1. The final fixture saw IAG play the Early Intervention Team (essentially a Manchester Grassroots side) appearing as Team X. Despite a Mulley goal in a 1-1 draw, IAG took maximum points with a 2-0 win and five points out of a possible six. A totally different story from last seasons opening day! |
