| IAG FC battle to a draw in Newark |
IAG FC made the long journey down to Newark in Nottinghamshire to battle the wind, rain and a strong mental health users team to share the spoils...20th March 2008 saw IAG FC venture down to Nottinghamshire following a challenge from the Newark Anagrams, a local mental health users team. The match turned out to be an eleven a side affair played out at Newark High School on an astroturf pitch. In blustery winds and driving rain, IAG made a bright start and went ahead when Alan Pringle seized on a mistake in the Newark defence to drive the ball home. Both sides then had chances and Newark could count themselves unlucky when a wicked shot hit the underside of the IAG bar and bounced away. Playing on astroturf, the wet and windy conditions made control difficult, but almost straight after the restart, Newark forced themselves back into the game heading home from a corner. The match continued to ebb and flow, IAG pressing and Newark playing more on the counter attack. Eventually however, nobody could manufacture the final touch and both sides settled for a creditable draw. Mention particularly for new recruit Rob McNay who slotted into the team well and had a very aware and composed debut. A return match in Macclesfield is eagerly anticipated by all. |
