| IAG FC learn some hard lessons in pre season friendly |
IAG come down to earth with a bump as they crash to a heavy defeat from a Macclesfield Town Football in the Community side....Some tough lessons were hopefully learnt as IAG took on a very competent side organized by the football in the Community (FITC) section of Macclesfield Town FC in a pre season friendly at Macclesfield High School. Playing under lights in unseasonably cold weather, IAG took the opportunity to blood several new players in an unfamiliar line up as coach Pete Sayers attempted to size up his options and get a look at everyone before the season kicks off next month. The team also included some lads from Manchester Grassroots who kindly made the long trip down to play, not forgetting Alan Pringle of course who made a round trip of over 100 miles and Rick Robinson Moss, another player who put a good few miles on the clock. The first half was a well fought out affair with the FITC team having just the upper hand, but IAG bravely resisted and scored the goal of the half when Pringle chipped the keeper from well outside the box. Going in 1-3 down at half time, Sayers made a number of changes but the general team play and fitness of the opposition saw them bang in ten goals without reply. Difficult to pick anyone out for praise other than to say the team as a whole kept going and never let their heads go down, which is a good sign for the tests that lie ahead. Chris Charlton in goal however, deserves a special mention. Despite the amount of goals conceded, it would be fair to say that he had no chance with the vast majority, and in fact pulled off some incredible saves. |
