| IAG FC run riot in Newark return! |
IAG FC hit the goal trail as they blast seven goals past Newark in the pre season return fixture in Macclesfield...24th July 2008 and a beautiful sunny day saw the return match between Newark and IAG on the astroturf pitch at Macclesfield High School. The home side, with some unfamiliar faces, started the quicker and soon opened their account. Playing some attractive football IAG racked up five goals without reply before the half time whistle blew.Things evened out somewhat after the break as both teams made changes. Two goals apiece saw the final score as IAG 7 Newark 2 with the star man being Brian Bowen on loan from Manchester Grassroots who notched a terrific hattrick. Pete Tattersall also looked dangerous on the ball and scored a brace whilst there was one goal each for James Bowen who played excellently despite being the youngest player on the pitch by far, and Pete Sayers. Andy Mulley plugged away and was unlucky to have a goal ruled out, while Chris Tipton superbly marshalled a solid defence consisting of the consistent pairing of Jon Naylor and Jerry Lakin. Rob McNay looked composed as ever and an energetic bustling performance from skipper Andy Barber complemented the teams overall performance. Mention too for good performances from Malachy Murray, Ian Hibbert and the injection of pace in the second half from Chris Charlton. Man of the match however was Rick Robinson Moss who put in a towering effort at left back. Thanks to Newark for their sporting approach...not easy to come out and play after such a long journey, and to Brian Clowes for his immaculate refereeing. Photos in the Picture Gallery section. |
