IAG FC shine in Germany...
iag fc 2009-10 munich 042May 10-14 2010 and IAG FC compete at the 13th Regenbogen Tournament in Munich, Germany...

IAG FC flew out to Munich to compete in the 13th Regenbogen tournament. This year, competitors were from England, Austria, the Czech Republic and hosts Germany who provided the first opposition in Real Bad Tolz. A dour 0-0 draw saw IAG’s campaign begin with the only highlights being a clear penalty appeal turned down after Dec Fletcher had been upended in the box, and a classically taken chest and volley effort from Alan Pringle, unfortunately chalked off due to an earlier infringement.

Despite this however, the team got off to a flier in the next fixture which saw them beat travelling and accommodation companions Salford Grassroots 5-0 with goals from Pringle and the first of a bucket load from Fletcher who notched four. Next up came the familiar adversaries Red Cross Kickers from Plattling who were similarly dispatched, this time 9-0, the goals in this match coming from Fletcher (5), skipper Luke Smith (2), Darrin Sullivan and Andy Mulley. From looking like potential champions, tactical switches against Pro Sport Linz proved costly in the next match and Fletcher scored the teams only goal in a 1-3 reverse. The team picked themselves up well however and finished the day in second position in the group table thanks to a 3-1 win against Regenbogen Rangers with strikes from Pringle (2) and Fletcher.

Day two saw a comfortable 3-0 win against Pro Move Graz begin proceedings with Fletcher (2) and Mulley the scorers, and saw the team into the quarter finals against Regenbogen Celtics. A tough, physical encounter saw the German side edge matters with a 2-1 win, Fletcher the lone scorer. From here on in, it was all about places, and a return fixture against Real Bad Tolz saw the Macclesfield side run out 2-0 winners courtesy of goals from Fletcher and Smith. The 5th – 6th playoff found IAG up against familiar opponents in Grassroots Manchester and a competitive, yet good natured game saw Mulley (2) and Fletcher force a 3-3 draw which took the match to penalties.

The Manchester side held their nerve at this point however and their greater experience took them through 4-2. A thoroughly enjoyable event saw the team improve greatly on last years performance and on a personal note, saw Dec Fletcher take the trophies for top goalscorer and best player. Mention too here for a magnificent effort from Chris Tipton in goal, Jerry Lakin and Jon Naylor as dependable as ever at the back. Again thanks must go to our German friends for hosting the event and again in particular to Stef Holzer whose hard work made it such a success.
