IAG FC snatch fifth place in the EASI Cup!
A_creditable_5th_place19 - 21st August 2009 and IAG FC give a great account of themselves at the eighth EASI Cup in Birmingham...

IAG FC kicked off the first match in this years EASI Cup in Birmingham with a 1-0 win over Spanish side Andalucia. The goal was scored by Steve Melton, who managed the amazing feat of scoring every one of the teams goals in the competition!

York & Humber A and Oxford Coasters were both then seen off 1-0 before a tough 1-1 draw against the Euro All Stars, which saw IAG top their group and enter into the "Champions League" phase the following day. This format then saw the Macclesfield based side beat York & Humber B 1-0, battle out a gritty 0-0 draw with experienced campaigners Manchester Grassroots, before succumbing to a last minute goal against the tournaments eventual winners PMA London, after shocking them by taking an early lead.

IAG's final game saw them defeat old rivals Pro Move Graz 2-1 and claim a very creditable 5th place out of 28 teams that had entered. Led by manager Pete Sayers, special mention must go to Steve Melton who looked dangerous and pacy throughout the tournament and for his exceptional goals record, Chris Tipton, Jerry Lakin and Jon Naylor for their excellent defensive work, skipper Darrin Sullivan for his great link up play and Andy Mulley a reliable substitute who performed at a great level when needed. Just the kind of confidence boost the team needed pre the league season which will soon start at the Powerleague in Manchester in October.
