| IAG FC's stunning finish to the season! |
3rd April 2008 and a remarkable finish to the league season with three wins that shoot the team up the league to sixth spot…IAG’s first match saw them up against a strong Salford East side aiming for the league title. The Macclesfield side had felt a little unlucky to lose their previous encounter with the league leaders but were not to be denied this time winning in style 2-1 thanks to early strikes from Alan Pringle and Andy Barber. The IAG skipper was involved in Salfords goal too with a bizarre deflection that trickled into his own net. Next up were Crumpsall Boavistas who were locked in a “battle of the bottom” with IAG, but again the Macclesfield outfit brushed the challenge aside 2-1 with another goal from Barber and one from Pete Tattersall. Team Y, in this case a team from East Lancs, failed to show and IAG took the points as they would have done anyway but then played a youthful Wythenshawe side in a hastily arranged friendly. Barber was again on the scoresheet, this time with a brace as IAG made it three out of three with a 2-0 victory. After the matches were completed, a brief but enjoyable presentation session took place which saw Chris Tipton deservedly take the Player of the Year award, Jon Naylor and Neil Marsom finishing close runners up. The days triumphs saw IAG leapfrog Rochdale to finish a highly creditable 7th place in their first season in the league. Links have been made with other teams however, and a batch of friendlies, as well as the trip to Austria, will see the side through the summer hopefully well prepared for the start of the next campaign.
