| IAG just fall short... |
29th April 2010 and IAG just come up short on the last day of the season...Once again, IAG lived up to their title of nearly men as they came up agonizingly short in the race for promotion. Three wins were required on the league’s last day and first up were IAG’s closest rivals for the runners up spot, Despite twice taking the lead through Dec Fletcher and Darren Sullivan, IAG contrived to let the Lancashire side back in and a last minute strike ensured the points were shared and almost guaranteed second place for Preston. To be fair, Preston played a good deal of the match a man down after having a player sent off for dissent, and they then went on to beat champions Wigan for their only defeat of the season, so they deserved their honours.
Calderdale were next up but were a no show so the points were given to the Macclesfield side via a 2-0 w/o. Last match of the season was against Bolton EI All Stars and two goals from Fletcher and one from Steve Melton made sure IAG finished in style with a 3-1. Ultimately disappointing then, but symptomatic of the progress that has been made with everyone determined to go one better next year.
In a presentation afterwards, Jon Naylor deservedly won Player of the Year.
