IAG step up their title challenge

iag fc feb 1018th February 2010 and IAG step up their title challenge…

IAG entered the New Year needing points to stay in the title hunt and had an excellent day winning two and scaring the wits out of the current table toppers in a thrilling draw in their third match. First up were bottom of the table Welsh Dragons, and IAG cantered to a comfortable 4-0 win courtesy of goals from new boy Dec Fletcher and Steve Melton. 4-0 was again the score in the second clash, this time against Blackpool CST with Fletcher and Melton again on target, accompanied by a lone strike from Andy Mulley. IAG’s third match was against runaway league leaders Peoples Voice Wigan and a goal from Darrin Sullivan followed by an own goal put the Macclesfield side two up early on. Unfortunately, concentration lapsed a little late on, and Wigan proved their credentials as league leaders by storming back to force a draw, but admitted afterwards that they had been given a real scare. The results however, propel IAG into third place now challenging strongly for honours. An enjoyable day was brought to a close with an impromptu friendly against the Stoke franchise who, this season, are competing as a wild card in the league. An enjoyable and closely fought encounter was settled in the last minute as the more experienced IAG (Macc) squeezed to a  5-4 win courtesy of goals by Fletcher (2), Melton (2) and Mulley.
