| It's a Goal! launches in the Borders... |
19th May 2010 and It's a Goal! launches in the Scottish Borders...
Great news for the Scottish Borders as It's a Goal! launches at Melrose Rugby Union Football Club. The launch attracted ex Scottish internationals in both rugby and football as speakers included Melrose coach Craig Chalmers and former Dundee Utd, Kilmarnock and Reading footballer Andy McLaren. Andy in particular gave a heartfelt account of his own problems with drugs and alcohol, and was backed up by speeches from Craig and ex It's a Goal! player Malachy Murray. Local champion Haylis MacKay coordinated the event and there were short speeches from National Development Director Pete Sayers and Borders coach Frank Tait. It is envisaged that the programme will run at Hawick, Selkirk, Galashiels and Peebles rugby clubs with the first programme starting at Eyemouth in the summer.
