IAG certainly served up a few fireworks of their own as they almost completed three wins out of three in the NW MH Users League on Guy Fawkes Day at the Power Dome in Manchester. The curse of late withdrawals had hit the team once again, but the lads who turned out put up a great show against decent opposition. First up were Bury FC, new opponents for the Macclesfield side, but two timely goals from Andy Mulley and a Chris Tipton blockbuster ensured the two points went to IAG. Next, and a brace from Steve Melton saw IAG home, again without conceding, against Medlock FC. The final game saw IAG pit themselves against Prospect Place FC (formerly Rochdale) and a tight game saw things going well, with a Darrin Sullivan effort the only score. Unfortunately, IAG failed to make a host of shots count, and with literally the last kick of the match, the Prospect Place danger man got free and lashed home an equaliser. After what had been a great effort from the team, the draw felt more like a defeat, but after some reflection, all agreed that five points out of a possible six was a great return, continued improvement and keeps the Macc outfit up with the front runners in Division Two. Special mention goes to all the goalscorers in particular but also to Chris Charlton who, on his return from a couple of broken ribs, played a great harrying role in midfield, Rob McNay, a solid defensive show and Jon Naylor, tough as ever and nearly surprising everyone with a long range shot out of the blue against Medlock, that almost flew into the top corner.
