13th October 2010 and IAG FC begin their pre season in Barnsley...
October 13th and IAG FC began their pre season preparations with a visit over the Pennines to a tournament in Barnsley arranged to help celebrate World Mental Health Day. At Barnsley FC's Oakwell complex, IAG's first opponents, Humber Hotspurs from Grimsby, were despatched 2-1 with goals from Rob McNay and Steve Melton. The match saw some incredible saves from keeper Chris Charlton but unfortunately, an injury to central defender Chris Tipton, saw the latter take his place between the posts for the rest of the competition. Next up were pre tournament favourites Cheswold Park (Doncaster) and a ding dong battle ensued. Despite missing a great chance to take a two goal lead, IAG had to settle for a share of the spoils in a 2-2 draw courtesy of an Andy Mulley brace. Mulley and Melton were again on target in the third clash against Sheffield 2 but this was not enough as the staff team ran out 3-2 winners. The same pair managed to score yet again in IAG's final group match against Oakwell Terriers 2 but ran up against a team in form going down 2-5. Unfortunately at this point IAG left the tournament by virtue of having an inferior goal difference, but nonetheless a good warm up for the forthcoming season. An added bonus was the award of one of the Players of the Tournament given to Steve Melton (above).
