Coach: Tim Hamlett It's a Goal! Stoke was well represented at the annual international EASI (European Association for Sport and Social Integration) Cup tournament providing four players in the squad. Daniel Steventon, Adam Love, Adam Powell and Keith Rushton, all "graduates" from the Stoke programme, joined coach Jerry Lakin and National Development Director Pete Sayers in his role as Team Manager, participating in the annual event held this year in Gottingen, Germany. The team aquitted itself well, despite its inexperience, playing against sides from Germany, Austria, England, Norway and an All Star European team, and the Potteries lads are pictured below. On plastic pitches, next door to Barnsley's Oakwell Stadium, the team battled well against tough, more experienced opponents, but gave a good account of themselves. First up were Doncaster React and a 2-4 reverse was closer than the score reflected. A 5-0 thumping of Humber Hotspurs 2 (Grimsby) settled everyone down however and a ding dong battle ensued against the eventual tournament winners, Sheffield 1. Unfortunately, a lack of competitive match practice eventually told and the Stoke lads went down bravely 1-2. This seemed to dishearten the lads a little and they succumbed 1-5 in their final fixture against locals Oakwell Terriers 1. Nevertheless, some vital experience for everyone and a good workout prior to their debut season in the Manchester League. Some form of consolation was earned however as the lads gained a trophy for coming runners up in the team penalty competition.
